Help turn love for nature into action—through education, advocacy, and when necessary, legal pressure to protect the ecosystems upon which life depends. Our Winter Appeal, running through January, will power this work for the year to come.
““Today we are faced with a challenge that calls for a shift in our thinking, so that humanity stops threatening its life-support system. . . . recognizing that sustainable development, democracy and peace are indivisible is an idea whose time has come.”
—
Wangari Maathai, Kenyan activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner
This year, we’re scaling our local action into a statewide movement to ensure that local decision-makers are held accountable to state law when deciding the future of shorelines, forests, wetlands, and communities on Whidbey and Camano Island.
Your support will help us:
- Go to Court: Challenge violations of environmental laws—like our current SEPA litigation with Oak Harbor—to defend public rights and hold governments accountable.
- Influence Policy: Provide planners, legislators, and agencies with solid, data-driven guidance to strengthen environmental protections.
- Build the Next Generation: Mentor young environmental leaders like Reilly and Violet, who joined us this year in donor-funded seasonal roles and whose work with us on environmental datasets and technical reports is fueling everything from education to litigation.
And we’re building new
StoryMaps—powerful, visual tools that make environmental science accessible and actionable. We’re proud of our latest publication,
The State of Our Shorelines. With your help, we’ll ensure this StoryMap reaches the eyes of the decision-makers who need this information, plus expand this program to cover issues facing forests, wetlands, and other ecosystems under pressure from development and climate change.
Protect future generations with a bequest

You can protect future generations on Whidbey, Camano, and beyond by including WEAN in your estate planning.
By naming WEAN as a beneficiary of your will, life insurance policy, or trust, you can join our Heartwood Circle and ensure that this life-giving work continues across generations.

Give in honor or in memory of a friend, place, or loved one

Mark a birthday, an anniversary, or a special occasion. Honor the life of someone special. Lift up the places, people, and movements that mean the most to you. Let someone know how much you care.
When you give online or by check, let us know if your gift is in honor or in memory of something or someone. When possible, we'll let them know.
"We must remember how to honor and respect life with each breath, step, word, and thought. What you bless blesses you in return. This is the power of reciprocity."
—Sandra Ingerman
Donate through a Donor Advised Fund or an IRA Qualified Distribution
Simplify your giving, streamline your record-keeping, and be tax-wise by contributing to your charities of choice, including WEAN, through a Donor Advised Fund. If you're interested in exploring what a DAF makes possible, we recommend consulting your financial advisor or exploring the resources available from Whidbey Community Foundation (Whidbey), the Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation (Camano), or a foundation of your choosing.
Qualified Charitable Distributions, made directly by the trustee of the IRA to a registered charity, are tax free! Learn more from the IRS or your financial advisor.

Ask your employer about corporate matching

Please reach out to your employer's human resources department to learn if corporate matching is available to you.
Many larger employers offer this benefit to their team members, and every year WEAN donors double or triple their impact by asking their employers to match their contributions.
Some donors have even gotten a matching program started at smaller businesses to uplift WEAN and other community organizations.

Giving via check ensures 100% of your contribution reaches WEAN. You can make a check payable to WEAN and mail to PO Box 293, Langley, WA 98260.
