Join WEAN for an urban walk and talk spotlighting Garry oaks in Oak Harbor. Local expert, Kyle Renninger, will be joining to share about these native Pacific Northwest trees and can help answer questions. Learn more about Garry oaks, socialize with fellow attendees, and find out more about WEAN. Expect a 60-minute walk with some light exertion, rain or shine.

When: October 29, 2026, from 3pm to 4pm

Where: Meet at the corner of SE Jensen St & SE Pioneer Way in Oak Harbor by the Garry oak mural (across the street from the Whidbey Coffee located at the 980 SE Pioneer Way).

Bring: Travel mug for a hot beverage (provided) if desired.

Join WEAN for a walk and talk at Greenbank Farm. With 140 acres of public access, this space spans wooded trails, prairie fields, and local agricultural land. WEAN's cofounders helped protect Greenbank Farm from dense housing development in the mid-to-late 1990's. Today, it also serves as an important location for native prairie plants—some of which were salvaged from Schoolhouse Prairie during a WSDOT road project.

We will meet at the main parking lot by the children's play area. Well-behaved and socialized dogs are welcome to join, but owners are responsible for their dogs at all times during the event.

The walk will take place rain or shine (though may be subject to cancellation if conditions are hazardous), so be sure to dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. The walk will last from 60-90 minutes; please note that some exertion is required.
